Bob Reynolds is a native Floridian and former United States Marine who’s political and public service spans some 30 years. Following Bob’s graduation from College where he was recognized as a collegiate debate champion, he returned to Miami and joined the Miami Police Department.
His police exploits as President of his Police Academy Class, Officer of the Year, recipient of the Fraternal Order of Police Gold star for Bravery and Legion of Honor award has made him one of the most decorated police officers in Miami’s history. This recognition would later serve as his springboard to elective office. Running for the State legislature in the most multi-ethnic district in the State of Florida, Bob put his political and communicative skills to use to overcome what the Miami Herald would later describe as “overwhelming odds”. Bob was elected to three consecutive terms to the Florida House of Representatives.
During his tenure in the House, Bob served as Vice Chairman of the powerful Regulated Industries Committee, the Criminal Justice Committee and was appointed by the Speaker of the House to Chair a Health and Rehabilitative Services oversight committee. The Fraternal Order of Police recognized Bob as there, “Legislator of the Year” for his successful effort to change a discriminatory law that prohibited public employees from seeking political office without first having to resign from their employment. He was also recognized as “legislator of the Year” by the United Teachers of Dade County and later received the J. Edgar Hoover award by the National Police Hall of Fame.
Bob would later serve with the Florida Department of Insurance as an Insurance Fraud Investigator and Legislative Affairs Coordinator. He successfully lobbied and won a ten year battle to grant “high risk Status” and the right to carry a firearm for Law Enforcement investigators working for the State of Florida.
After a change in administrations, Bob became the Legislative Affairs Coordinator for the Department of Professional Regulation (DPR). As their Legislative Affairs Coordinator, he guided landmark regulatory legislation through a maze of Senate and House committees.
As a result, the Department had their first major rewrite of its regulatory authority which enhanced their enforcement powers and created more uniformity in licensure.
He would later lobby and assist in the successful passage of the merger between the Department of Business Regulation and the Department of Professional Regulation, the largest merger of Governmental agencies in Florida History.
For his efforts he was appointed the Inspector General by the Secretary of the newly created Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
Bob’s experience as Legislative Affairs Coordinator and Inspector General with DBPR has enhanced his knowledge of the Administrative processes and Regulatory Boards within DBPR. His extensive personal and political contacts within State Agencies and throughout Florida has afforded him tremendous access and a resultant ability to resolve problems without the often encountered red tape. Moreover, with the vast experience in the legislative arena, both as a legislator and a lobbyist, he understands intimately the legislative process and its many nuances.
Bob Reynolds founded Robert R. Reynolds and Associates, LLC. Over twenty years ago and has represented a wide variety of clients from Health Care, Regulatory, and not-for-profit Associations. He is a member of the Florida Association of Professional Lobbyists and maintains a strict compliance to lobbying requirements and a strict code of ethics that has been recognized by his peers.
Bob holds a degree in both Political Science and Speech Communications from Illinois State University.
